Technical Manager – Biocides & Speciality Chemicals (Position Filled)

Salary: £70,000 + Package

Due to retirement, a rare opportunity to join a leading multinational speciality chemical business in the North West of England has presented itself. This role would suit a proven Technical Manager with strategic vision and a background in biocides.

Their Technical Manager will be responsible for technical function of the Biocide Technical Service Laboratories to maintain and develop the profitable sales of biocides, preservatives and/or associated products to customers within your designated territory.

Technical Manager – Key Responsibilities

  • To manage the staff and resources of the Biocide Technical Service Laboratories within the agreed budget.
  • To support the UK and Overseas sales teams through technical presentations, customer visits and technical literature.
  • To serve as technical liaison for all UK market areas.
  • To be responsible for technical service reports.
  • To review and update test methods in conjunction with other technical staff .
  • To ensure the correct and appropriate technical training of your sales team and laboratory staff.
  • To represent and promote the business at all the appropriate technical/business meetings.
  • To carry out technical trials and plant hygiene audits at customer premises as required and in support of the agreed business plan and to decide upon and request the necessary technical resources to be employed.
  • To maintain an up-to-date knowledge of company literature and product developments.
  • To prepare expenditure for the departmental annual budget and make recommendations for capital items.
  • To carry out specific duties and responsibilities detailed in the current Company policy statements and procedures with particular emphasis on those relating to quality, environment, safety and health.
  • To be an internal auditor for internal Management System.
  • To ensure that your individual responsibilities for ensuring that safe working practices with due regard to current health, safety, and environmental legislation are adhered to and maintained at all times during the course of your employment.
  • To participate in any additional duties requested which are required by the Company and deemed reasonable and within your capabilities to perform.

Technical Manager – Essential Requirements

  • BSc/MSc in Microbiology or Biological Sciences.
  • Minimum of 15 years’ Technical Experience.
  • Good knowledge of BPR and REACH.
  • Good level of interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work in a team.
  • Strong ability to organise and manage personal work/time schedules.
  • Ability to communicate at a technical level with government agencies, regulatory bodies and industry trade associations.
  • Proven experience of delivering business related projects/results.
  • Good level of IT skills particularly Microsoft Office/Outlook.
  • Valid full driving licence.
